DALLAS, TX., September 12, 2024 - Fast Company recently announced its sixth annual Best Workplaces for Innovators list, honoring organizations and businesses that demonstrate an inspiring commitment to encourage and develop innovation at all levels.is a finalist on the Enterprise Products and Services list for its “Islands of Innovation” organizational model.

“Innovation thrives at Island because we deeply understand our customers and their needs”

The 2024 Best Workplaces for Innovators list ranks 100 winners from a variety of industries, including entertainment, biotech, consumer packaged goods, marketing, education, healthcare, and many more. To earn Best Workplaces for Innovators recognition, all of this year’s winners (as well as dozens of additional finalists that appear online) completed an application that addressed questions about projects, investments, company wide programs, and workplace culture. Fast Company editors evaluated every application and conducted additional research to generate a score for each company. A separate judging panel then reviewed the top 125 companies to reach a consensus on the overall winner. Applications for specific categories were judged solely by Fast Company editors.

“Innovation thrives at Island because we deeply understand our customers and their needs,” said Island Co-founder and CEO Mike Fey. “This allows our world-class engineers to focus on solving the toughest IT challenges with an organizational structure that allows them to move incredibly fast.”

The “Islands of Innovation” model empowers engineering teams to operate like independent startups with their own funding, leadership, and deliverables. Each engineering island is empowered to own their product — including market research, cutting-edge feature development, and direct product delivery to Island customers. In the end, this model produces a dramatically more impactful result, with each team and product becoming a force multiplier for Island’s product quality and customer satisfaction. Island also organizes internal mini-conferences and learning opportunities to industry-leading innovators to further advance a culture of continuous learning.

Island’s success is reflected in its recent $175M Series D financing, which doubled its valuation to $3 billion in less than a year, signaling an exciting trajectory for both the company and its employees. As the pioneer in enterprise browsers, Island has redefined how businesses manage security, IT modernization, and productivity by embedding these essential functions directly into the browsing experience. This groundbreaking solution benefits everyone — from business leaders to end users — by offering secure access, enhanced productivity, and reduced costs.

“Innovation is a global priority that cuts across all industries, and this year’s list reflects that diversity,” says Brendan Vaughan, editor in chief of Fast Company. “The top ten features four companies headquartered outside of the U.S. and includes representatives from technology, advertising, finance, biotech, pharmaceuticals, ecommerce, and the nonprofit sectors.”
